Emergencies

Emergencies with orthodontic treatment are very rare. Sometimes wires can get loose, and brackets can fall off. Collect the broken pieces and contact us as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. Often times you may be able to temporarily solve many problems that arise with your appliances.

Sore Teeth and Irritation

If you experience soreness after a visit, try using a warm wash cloth or heating pad. You may also try a warm salt water rinse. If you still experience soreness, you may take acetaminophen or other non-aspirin pain relievers while you adjust. If your wires are causing irritation on your lips, cheeks, or tongue, you can try putting wax on the braces. Ask us, and we'll show you how!

Loose Wires

If a wire comes loose, use a tweezer to try and put your wire back in place. If this does not help, you may use a fingernail clipper to clip the wire behind the last tooth it is fastened. Please schedule an appointment with our office to repair the wire.

Poking Wire

If you are experiencing discomfort from a poking wire, you may use a pencil eraser to try and push the wire down. You may also place wax on the wire to get rid of the discomfort.

Remember that if you are experiencing sever pain, or if your appliances do break, you should always call the office to schedule an appointment.
